Discover Hartlepool’s maritime magic – volunteer and help preserve the town’s history.

Residents of Hartlepool are invited to participate in a one-of-a-kind experience that will shape the town’s marine legacy in the future.

People are invited to a special drop-in event on Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. at Community Hub Central on York Road to discover more about exciting new volunteering opportunities as part of Hartlepool Borough Council’s ambitious Tides of Change project.

This is an opportunity for local individuals to engage in the Council’s newly established Maritime Skills Academy.

Tides of Change is using a National Lottery Heritage Fund development grant and Tees Valley Combined Authority funding to develop proposals for reimagining the visitor experience at the Museum of Hartlepool and the paddle steamer Wingfield Castle, bringing Hartlepool’s seafaring history to life in bold, unforgettable ways.

Councillor Pamela Hargreaves, Chair of the Council’s Economic Growth and Regeneration Committee, said, “This is an excellent opportunity for residents to learn new skills while also preserving important aspects of our maritime history for future generations.”

“The Tides of Change project is a critical component of Hartlepool’s £150 million waterfront transformation, and we’re thrilled to offer citizens hands-on chances to get involved and make a significant difference.

“We would once again like to thank The National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery players for the funding we’ve received which is helping make this possible.”

Individuals will be able to choose how they can participate in the following event on Saturday: The Friarage Project: Work alongside skilled boatbuilders from the North East Maritime Trust to restore The Friarage, a historic coble fishing vessel.

Get involved and learn real conservation skills, or help capture the voyage with photography and historical research.
