Doorbell footage shows blaze erupt at mosque after suspected arson attack.

The video shows a big fire in front of the mosque that was eventually extinguished by the fire brigade. Photos from the aftermath showed a burned-out automobile.

Police have opened an inquiry following a suspected arson attack at a mosque in East Sussex, with footage showing the moment the fire broke out.

Sussex Police said emergency services were alerted to a fire in Peacehaven about 9.50 p.m. on Saturday.

On Sunday, a doorbell video surfaced, showing a person on the steps at the mosque’s entrance, as well as another person standing at the bottom. Both wore balaclavas.

Moments later, the fire breaks out, and someone runs to safety from within the building.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood described the mosque attack as “deeply concerning” and asked people to “stand united”.

A spokeswoman described it as a “fast-moving investigation” and stated that there was an increased police presence at the area, as well as additional patrols, to provide comfort.

Ms Mahmood posted on X: “Today’s reports of an attack on a mosque in Peacehaven are highly alarming.

Law enforcement keeps me up to date. “An investigation is ongoing, but it appears that things could have been far worse.

“At times like this, we must stand together. This country’s greatest strength has been its capacity to create a single nation from multiple communities.

“Attacks against Britain’s Muslims are attacks against all Britons and this country itself.”

Terrorism?

Mothin Ali, deputy leader of the Green Party, said police needed to “urgently seek clarity on the motives of this attack” and whether “this hate crime constitutes an act of terrorism”.

“People were inside the mosque when it was firebombed and people in this community will be feeling frightened and targeted for their faith,” according to him.

Zero tolerance Sussex Police Detective Superintendent Karrie Bohanna described the investigation as “fast-moving” and encouraged anyone with pertinent information to report it.

“This includes anyone with CCTV, doorbell, dashcam, or cell phone footage in the area at the time. “We appreciate the community’s worries, as well as the impact this will have on the Muslim community.”

There is already a greater police presence on the scene, and additional patrols are in place to provide comfort at other places of worship throughout the county.

“Sussex Police takes a zero-tolerance approach to hate crime and there is no place for hate across the county.”
