Dundee FC stadium decision delayed again as application won’t be considered this month.

Dens chiefs are optimistic that the application will be heard next month. The decision on Dundee FC’s new stadium at Camperdown will not be made this month.

The club is awaiting a decision on a planning in principle application seeking permission for the new 12,500-seat stadium. It was submitted to Dundee City Council in February and included plans for a 140-room hotel, a 300-capacity beer hall, a residential development, and a city crematorium.

The local authority’s planning committee, which meets once a month, will make the decision on the application.

The next scheduled meeting is August 11. However, the agenda makes no mention of the Dundee FC stadium application. This means that a decision on the development will be made no earlier than mid-September.

However, Dens chiefs are confident that the application will be heard at the next scheduled meeting after constructive and ongoing discussions with stakeholders.

Council’s deadline was last summer

The council’s own ‘determination deadline’ for the application, as listed on the planning portal, was Friday June 7, 2024. However, the process has been hampered by a number of delays, with traffic management being one of the stumbling blocks for club officials.

The stadium application originally proposed a direct access road from the A90 into the complex.

The junction would have been located between the BP petrol station and the Coupar Angus Road roundabout, allowing access to the stadium’s southern edge. Traffic Scotland, which manages the country’s trunk road network, expressed concerns that the junction did not meet national highways standards.

A new junction proposal was unveiled earlier this year, which the club hopes will address the concerns of transport officials.

The junction will be relocated by 40 metres, new speed limit signs will be installed, the merging lane will be extended, and a pedestrian route will be relocated. Drummond Black Consulting Ltd, an independent firm, approved the updated design after conducting an audit.
