Dundee pre-season has been ‘zero to 100’ reveals Dens new boy Paul Digby.
Paul Digby wanted to be taken out of his comfort zone as he embarked on a new chapter in Scottish football.
In his brief stint at Dundee, Paul Digby claims to have experienced “proper zero to 100 stuff.” Following a lengthy career in English football, the seasoned midfielder is preparing for his competitive debut and first appearance at Dens Park this afternoon.
In the Dee’s two friendly games, the 30-year-old has been a vocal presence in the middle of the park, coaching some of his younger teammates through the game.
But, after only a few weeks of preseason, the real action begins this afternoon when Airdrieonians come in the League Cup. “I can’t wait to get going, it’s been really hard work over the last few weeks,” Digby told the crowd.
“It’s skyrocketed, from zero to 100. “It’s a lot different from England, given how short pre-season is here.”
He went on to say, “There’s a lot of running, obviously, but you get right into the tactics and how we want to play. “So it’s pretty intense, and everything is at a high right away. “When you put in so much hard training early on, you want to play, so having the season start in just a few weeks is amazing.
“It’s so concentrated that you’re having double and triple sessions to acquire as much information as possible.
“In England, you’re about six weeks in and still not competing. “In the past, it felt like it dragged on, but up here it’s been so short and quick. “I much enjoy having a short time and cramming everything in.
“I believe I’ve reached the level required for this stage due to the intensity. “We’re ready to go.”
Digby ‘wanted out of comfort zone’
Digby’s early career included being capped for England U/20s and training with Roy Hodgson’s senior squad alongside players such as Wayne Rooney.
That happened during his stint at Barnsley before moving to Ipswich. Following that, he spent several seasons in League Two before joining Cambridge United for five years, four of which were in League One.
Digby, who has spent his whole career in the English lower leagues, is excited to embark on a fresh journey with Dundee.
“Dens Park has a proper old school feel about it so it’s exciting and I’m looking forward to getting out there for the first time this weekend,” he told me.
“It will be a completely different experience, with new grounds, clubs, and players. “Visiting Arbroath recently was a whole new experience for me.
“I am here to gain new experiences and compete in every game. “I wanted to be challenged because I had spent my entire career in England. “It’s going to be different but that’s why I’m here because I want to experience something new and test myself.”
