East of England Co-op’s latest grant supports Essex groups.
ESSEX charities will benefit from the East of England Co-op’s new award funding. Every year, the retailer donates a portion of its sales to charities and community activities that promote social cohesion and integration. The Co-op’s current round of financing will support 32 projects in East Anglia.
Among these, Age Well East has received a £1,700 grant to start a weekly friendship group in Colchester targeted at combatting loneliness and social isolation in people aged 60 and older.
Heathlands PTA at Heathlands CofE Primary School in West Bergholt also received a £5,000 grant to assist construct an innovation centre, a facility dedicated to encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning.
Since 2020, the Co-op has provided more over £1 million through its community activities, with the Community Cares Fund alone supporting over 146,000 individuals.
Angela Carpenter, the community support lead, stated, “We’re really proud to sponsor these crucial programs because they make individuals feel more connected, less alone, and better prepared for life.
“Whether it’s by creating access to social activities, offering support into education or work, improving wellbeing, or providing people with advice and support, each project plays a part in building a fairer, more supportive community and demonstrates our commitment to strengthening community cohesion and integration and making a positive local impact.”
