Eastleigh return to winning ways by beating Morecambe.
SPITFIRES manager Scott Bartlett was overjoyed after Eastleigh defeated Morecambe 2-1.
The Spitfires had not won in their last three games, and both teams came close to opening the scoring with Jack Nolan and Ciaran McGuckin.
Nick Townsend saved Nolan’s dangerous corner, and McGuckin had a shot blocked shortly before the break.
However, it only took Eastleigh six minutes of the second half to break the deadlock as Lloyd Humphries’ free shot found the top corner.
McGuckin converted a penalty in the 73rd minute to extend the lead, and Morecambe made a comeback in the 90th minute through Ben Tollitt.
But Eastleigh saw out the game, much to the satisfaction of their manager, who has tasted defeat only once since taking over. “I’m pleased because I believe we just beat a pretty excellent squad.
“With how they play, we had to spend a lot of work yesterday figuring out how to counter their press. And I thought the lads did an excellent job of stopping them from playing out of their goal kicks.
“When you make changes and there is some tiredness, they become even better at it.
I am quite proud of the men. We hope to win every game. “Converting a draw on Tuesday into a win in your next game is a wonderful thing.
Four points after two games is never a terrible thing. “We felt external pressure on today’s game because of Morecambe’s position in the league. I get that, but they are a good squad. We showed our players more footage of themselves than any other squad.
“I’m incredibly happy for the players. We shown remarkable resilience. We’re still a work in progress, but these three things are really valuable. I’m happy for the players.
