Eddie Howe delivers Lewis Hall injury update as Newcastle face West Ham

Lewis Hall, a longtime absentee, got a positive injury update from Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe ahead of Sunday’s match against West Ham United.

The young defender’s return could soon help the Magpies, as Howe has confirmed that the English full-back is “very close” to playing again.

Since his brief appearance in Newcastle’s 4-0 Champions League victory over Belgian top-flight team Union Saint-Gilloise at the beginning of October, Hall has not played for the team.

More than a month has passed since he last started for the Magpies in their 4-1 EFL Cup third-round triumph over League One team Bradford City at St. James’ Park.

Although the 21-year-old defender’s injury problems are only one factor contributing to Newcastle’s poor start to the season, the team has suffered without him.

In their first nine Premier League games, Howe’s team has only achieved three victories. A victory over West Ham would put them back in the top half of the standings.

Prior to Sunday’s trip to London Stadium, Howe stated that Hall is getting close to making a full recovery and may soon return to full training.

In his press conference prior to the game, Howe stated, “He’s very close.” “Hopefully, today will be his first time training with us as he hasn’t done so yet.

“We’ll observe his appearance. He has put in a lot of effort, taken care of himself, and appears to be in good health, but we will need to reintroduce him when the moment is appropriate.

Howe would benefit greatly from Hall’s return since his defensive options have been limited in recent weeks. Howe gave a positive update on the rest of his team, excluding Hall.

He said, “No new injuries.” Will Osula’s ankle is still being treated; we’ll check on him today. However, we are the same as we were before it.

Newcastle enters this weekend’s crucial match fresh off a resounding 2-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur to secure a spot in the EFL Cup quarterfinals.
