England flags group planning Sheffield march set to be opposed by anti-fascists.

A group that hangs flags on lampposts is planning a march in Sheffield, which will face protests from anti-fascists.

According to Raise the Colours Sheffield, the event will begin at noon on Saturday, June 13, at the Peace Gardens and end at a hotel on Blonk Street in Wicker.
According to a Facebook post, the event will be ‘peaceful’, and guests are encouraged to bring flags, megaphones, and music.
It further states: “Lets have a good time and be loud and proud get the date booked in your calendar don’t miss it, be counted.”

It follows a protest at Sheffield Station on Saturday, April 4, to’save our children’s futures’.

It is reported that 70 demonstrators attended, including livestreamers and YouTubers. They encountered a counter-demonstration of about 200 anti-fascists.
Dozens of police were also present.
Raise the Colours charges £10 for two 3ft by 5ft flags, according to its Facebook site. Attaching flags to public property, such as lampposts and bridges, is forbidden.

Sheffield Communities Against Racism and Fascism has planned a counter-demonstration on the march day.

In a post, it states: ‘Not content with their tiddly static presence at the train station last weekend, Raise the Colours – a new, local far-right group mostly concerned with leaving Union Jacks lying around – has announced that they’ll be attempting to march through Sheffield on June 13th, from the Peace Gardens to a hotel housing asylum seekers on Blonk Street.’

“Of course, we must show them they are not welcome to march through our city spouting racist hate.”

St George and Union flags first appeared last summer. The practice gained popularity among those who claim to be motivated by patriotism.
Others, however, feel it is intended to frighten minorities and asylum seekers during a period of rising immigration tensions.
