Everton may be given fresh shot at signing as impending transfer may change player’s views

The Portuguese team’s upcoming acquisition of Enzo Barrenechea may give Everton their second chance at Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis.

At least if Mais Futebol’s account of Nuno Farinha’s remarks to CNN is any indication.

This summer, Barrenechea is getting closer to joining Benfica from Aston Villa. The Portuguese team is now finalizing an agreement to acquire the Argentine midfield player. He was supposed to be in Portugal in the next few days to finalize a relocation, according to a story released today.

His addition will give their midfield more competition, especially for Luis, who has been linked to another summer transfer.

According to a source earlier this month, Everton, one of the midfielder’s longtime fans, has rekindled their interest in the player, giving Napoli possible competition for the 25-year-old.

That would rely on Benfica approving a transfer; reports from the previous year, when Everton was also mentioned, said that they were seeking up to €30 million. Now that his current contract expires in 2027, that price might have decreased.

Additionally, Farinha thinks that because Barrenechea will be arriving soon, they will be more receptive to a sale this summer than they were previously.

“Florentino is almost invincible at getting the ball back,” he remarked.

Few players in Europe has the ability to recover balls like he does. But when it comes to the ball, he lacks Enzo Barrenechea’s equipment.

As a result, I think Florentino is aware that his tenure at Estádio da Luz might be coming to an end.

Indeed, he had a significant impact for a considerable amount of time. He was a major contributor to and winner of titles. However, it appears that Benfica has been searching for “something more” in that role for some time.
