Ex Hearts ace seals transfer to Scottish club as he’s handed ‘fresh opportunity’ after high level experience

Ex Hearts ace seals transfer to Scottish club as he’s handed ‘fresh opportunity’ after high level experience.

The former star made a memorable Tynecastle debut and has now signed with his new Scottish club. A former Hearts player has moved to the Scottish Championship in his most recent transfer.

Clubs across the country are doing deals, and the Jambos have been among the most active. Signings such as Claudio Braga have already made an impact in the club’s Premier Sports Cup group stage campaign, and more are expected before the end of the window.

Former players are also on the move, including Harry Cochrane. The midfielder progressed through the ranks at Hearts and, after leaving Queen of the South at the end of last season, has signed a one-year contract with Arbroath.

Under co-managers David Gold and Colin Hamilton, the Gayfield team was promoted to the second tier ahead of this season.

Harry Cochrane signs for Arbroath

The statement reads: “Welcome, Harry! Arbroath FC is pleased to announce the signing of Harry Cochrane for a one-year contract, subject to SFA approval.

The 24-year-old central midfielder joins the club after leaving Queen of the South, and will be part of the squad for the 2025/26 season.

“Cochrane began his senior career with Heart of Midlothian and has since represented Dunfermline Athletic and Queen of the South, gaining valuable experience in the Premiership, Championship, and League One.” Welcome to Gayfield, Harry!”

Arbroath’s co-managers said of the former Jambo: “Harry is a young player, but he’s played a lot of high-level games, and we believe he’ll be a good fit for how we want to play. It’s a new opportunity for him, and we’re glad to have him on board.”

Harry Cochrane on time at Hearts

Cochrane, 24, is a product of the Hearts youth system. He is famous for scoring the opening goal in Hearts’ 4-0 win over Celtic on December 17, 2017,[13], which ended Celtic’s 69-game domestic unbeaten streak.

[14] He became the club’s youngest league goalscorer, following his debut against Dundee earlier that season as the first SFA Performance School graduate to start a Scottish Premiership game.

He played 33 games for Hearts before joining Queen of the South in 2021. In 2023, when asked about adjusting to life in the lower leagues after leaving Hearts, Cochrane said: “It’s different, with more physical games than technical ones. I’ve been trying to improve that side of my game.

Hopefully I can work my way back up because everybody wants to play at the top level. I just sort of see it as a stepping stone.”You play on astroturf most weeks and are probably not the best astros. You practise astrology every day, and there is a physical component.

I’m not saying it wasn’t physical at the highest level for Hearts, but the lower you go, the less time you spend on the pitch. Since leaving Hearts, I believe I have gained about seven kilogrammes. I’m not sure if it’s just me growing, or if it’s because I’m eating and exercising more.

I feel like I’ve gained muscle, which is essential in football these days. A lot of it is physical, and I am not the fastest, as you know, so I need to try to improve my game in other ways.”
