Ex Hibs pair join free agent squad as ex Hibees, Celtic and Sunderland man amongst aces aiming for contracts

Ex Hibs pair join free agent squad as ex Hibees, Celtic and Sunderland man amongst aces aiming for contracts.

One familiar Hibs face left the club this summer, while another won the Scottish Cup at Easter Road and has also played for Celtic, Sunderland, and other clubs.

A former Hibs pair could be on the move this summer, as a club hero looks to secure his next club. David Gray’s side has signed Thibault Klidje, Jamie McGrath, Josh Mulligan, and Raphael Sallinger this season, but more could be on the way.

Dylan McGeouch, who was previously at Carlisle United but is now out of contract, is one of the ex-players looking to move.

McGeouch began his career at Celtic, where he appeared 27 times, scoring two goals and assisting three others.

He spent time on loan at Hibs during his Celtic career before three permanent years in which he became a hero with 121 appearances and was a member of the Scottish Cup-winning squad in 2016.

His form at Easter Road earned him a chance at Sunderland, where he appeared on 42 occasions, and he has since played for Aberdeen, Forest Green Rovers, and Carlisle United.

He has joined the PFA’s free agent squad for preseason training. A total of 38 players are being put through their paces in order to impress potential suitors ahead of their respective seasons.

Another member of the group is Max Boruc, who left Hibs at the end of his contract earlier this summer. Boruc appeared three times for Hibs in competitive matches.

Dwight Gayle was part of the group last season, and the Easter Road club signed him on a one-year contract, with the veteran striker playing a key role in helping head coach Grey and co to third place in the Premiership before retiring.

In May, the former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace striker said of his time in the PFA squad: “It’s been a fantastic opportunity for a lot of the boys to come in and play with other players, to get that on-field coaching, and to regain their fitness. I think it’s a fantastic event that the PFA organised, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
