Exclusive Former Premier League owner in talks over £70m purchase of troubled Championship club.
John Textor has made negotiations with Sheffield Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri, but the sale of the troubled club to the US businessman has not progressed, according to Daily Mail Sport.
Textor recently sold his Crystal Palace interest to fellow American Woody Johnson for around £190 million in an ultimately futile attempt to avoid the Eagles’ relegation from the Europa League to the Conference League.
He had already shown an interest in the Championship strugglers, who are due to face a points deduction for failing to pay players on time yet again.
Sources close to the subject believe conversations have now taken place with a view to Textor adding the Owls to his collection of clubs, each of which was acquired amid financial crisis, but have disclosed that an agreement currently appears to be a long way off.
It is said that Chansiri is demanding approximately £100 million for Wednesday, though he may take £70 million for a club he purchased for around £30 million in 2015. Despite the obvious potential, £70 million may probably drive interested parties out of the market.
Whoever takes over Wednesday will inherit a stadium in desperate need of repair and a dwindling playing roster ravaged by summer departures.
