Exclusive Hibs boot out seven-figure bids from English Championship clubs for key star with offers nowhere near club’s valuation

Exclusive Hibs boot out seven-figure bids from English Championship clubs for key star with offers nowhere near club’s valuation.

David Grey is keen to retain one of his top players. HIBS turned down seven-figure bids from English Championship clubs for defender Lewis Miller.

SunSport understands the offers were around £1 million, but Easter Road officials quickly rejected them because they were nowhere near their valuation of the Australian star.

Boss David Grey has no plans to sell the 24-year-old, who has been an excellent signing since joining from Central Coast Mariners in 2022.

However, he is realistic enough to understand that he could still lose the powerful full-back, who has made 85 appearances, if the interested clubs match the price on Miller’s head.

Hibs broke their transfer record last week with a £1 million-plus bid for Togo striker Thibault Klidje from Luzern, demonstrating the club’s desire to maintain their new status as Scotland’s third force.

There is no pressure on Grey to balance the books, but it would be difficult for the board to reject a significantly higher bid for a player in the final year of his contract after a 12-month option was exercised.

Miller has 14 caps for Australia and is expected to be included in Tony Popovic’s squad for next year’s World Cup finals in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. In the past month, Hibs have also extended the contracts of key players Rocky Bushiri and Jordan Obita. Grey also still has room to improve his team.

Hibernian will travel to Denmark next week to face FC Midtjylland in a Europa League second round qualifier.

They have been active in the transfer market, signing Raphael Sallinger, Jamie McGrath, and Josh Mulligan. Meanwhile, former Hibs midfielder Stevie Mallan is nearing a return to Scottish football.

The 29-year-old hasn’t played a competitive game in nearly TWO YEARS after suffering a foot injury. Mallan, who was with Hibs from 2018 to 2021, is a free agent after leaving Salford City at the end of the 2023/24 season.

He played as a trialist for St Johnstone in a friendly against Dundee United on Tuesday night. Now, the Saints hope he will join Simo Valakari’s promotion push this season.
