Manning pull a key factor in Darling’s Norwich City switch.

Liam Manning’s influence played a significant role in Harry Darling joining Norwich City, despite the fact that discussions began before his appointment as head coach.

The defender was a key addition to the Canaries’ defensive reshuffle this summer, and Norwich outbid a number of Championship clubs to sign the 25-year-old after his Swansea contract expired.

Darling, who was born in Cambridge, spoke with City’s key personnel well before Manning’s appointment and was impressed by the sales pitch led by sporting director Ben Knapper and head of recruitment Lee Dunn.

“I spoke with the club really early,” Darling told the Pink Un. “I knew there was interest, and I really wanted to look into it because, as a Cambridge boy, I know a little bit about the club, and, as I mentioned, playing against Norwich is always tough.

“When I spoke with Ben and the guys at Norwich, the conversations were very positive, and their goals matched mine. “We want to be a Premier League team, and based on the club’s facilities and staff, we believe we are ready. It’s only when we get there.”

The opportunity for Darling to reunite with Manning after their productive spell at MK Dons, which resulted in the defender being named League One team of the season before moving to Swansea, was crucial to City’s sales pitch. “It was massive.” Liam and I probably had one of our best years at MK.

“I think, aside from Liam, the club spoke for itself,” Darling said. “Clearly, that was an added bonus. I’m really excited to work with him and Hoggy again, as well as the rest of the guys.Liam Manning worked with Harry Darling previously at MK Dons.

Obviously, I understand how he works. As time passes, he gains more experience and finds himself in new situations. “Everything I’ve noticed that is different has been very positive, and I really liked how he worked last time. So far, it’s been very enjoyable.

“It’s nice when a manager wants you, makes you feel loved, and shows you how much he trusts you.

It gives you confidence when you step onto the pitch, which I hope to repay with my performances.”
