Sheffield Wednesday given permission by EFL to make signing with three buyers in takeover frame.

Sheffield Wednesday were docked 12 points after being forced into administration in October, and now sit bottom of the Championship, 17 points from safety;

Duncan Watmore and Nathan Redmond have been training with the club and could sign.

Sheffield Wednesday has been granted exceptional permission by the EFL to recruit another player, despite being in administration and subject to a league-imposed transfer embargo.

Former Leeds United defender Liam Cooper signed at Hillsborough last week, despite interest from elsewhere, and Sky Sports News has learnt that Wednesday’s administrators have been given permission to bring in a second new signing.

This is due to six injured players in the team and the possibility of a number of other players departing for the Africa Cup of Nations in the coming weeks.
Duncan Watmore, a former Millwall, Sunderland, and Middlesbrough forward, and Nathan Redmond, an ex-Burnley, Southampton, and Birmingham winger, have been training with Wednesday in the hopes of signing, but no deal has been reached with either free agent.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports News has learnt that three independent purchasers have already made legitimate approaches to take over Hillsborough.
Begbies Traynor’s administrators have extended the deadline for two more interested parties to submit bids before closing the market.
It is envisaged that by the end of next week, the administrators would be able to provide preferred-bidder status to one possible buyer who they believe offers the best plan for moving Wednesday forward and providing long-term stability.
