Extractor fan cause of Brighton Hotel fire, fire service confirm.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue confirmed that an extractor fan was the cause of a fire at a hotel in Hove.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service reported receiving repeated calls at 3.11 p.m. on December 23 regarding allegations of smoke on the fourth floor of the Imperial Hotel, First Avenue, Hove.

The hotel was evacuated, but no casualties were recorded. Six firemen used breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire, and emergency services left the scene at 7.27pm.

In an update on Wednesday, December 24, an East Sussex Fire and Rescue spokeswoman stated:

“A fire investigation has now taken place and it has concluded that the cause of the fire was accidental due to a fault with an extractor fan.”
