Fast-tracked plans to demolish new £40m offices in Aberdeen waved through by council.
Planning officials awarded new owners permission to flatten the offices erected just 11 years ago without having to go through additional approvals.
Council leaders have approved plans to demolish Aberdeen’s £40 million Cityview offices, which were erected just over a decade ago.
Park’s of Hamilton purchased the site right off Wellington Road for £20 million in 2025.
The office park spans 4.39 acres, with four massive blocks offering a total of 100,000 square feet of floor space.
However, the offices, which are located across from the flattened site of the former Shell headquarters, have remained vacant for years due to difficult times in the energy industry.
What did Aberdeen Council decide on Cityview offices?
Unlike many planning applications, which can take many months to reach a decision, this one sought only official guidance on whether “environmental impact assessments” needed to be carried out before the demolition work.
Acting on behalf of Park’s, Berryhill Land and Planning sought to avoid this bit of red tape by contending there would be “no significant effect” on the surrounding area.
And they explained that materials “will be recycled where practicably possible”.
Papers stated: “While the development will create a large quantity of materials they will largely be recycled or reused and as such there are likely to be no significant
environmental effects.”
Earlier this month, we discovered that Park’s had submitted paperwork to Aberdeen City Council requesting permission to demolish the vacant premises.
They also state that there are no vulnerable natural regions nearby, with Tullos Hill located “some distance to the east”.
As a result, the structures can be demolished under “permitted development rights,” which means the owner does not need to obtain municipal approval to demolish them.
Once demolition is completed, the site will be carefully safeguarded until a future redevelopment is proposed.
According to building warrants, Park’s total cost for dismantling the Cityview buildings will be £795,000.
