Fears Dundee sex attack doctor has fled the country.
Mohammed Gado was scheduled to be sentenced but did not show up. There are reports that a doctor who sexually abused female patients under his care at a Dundee hospital has departed the country.
Dr. Mohammed Gado was scheduled to be sentenced at the city’s sheriff court on Thursday after being convicted by a jury.
However, his lawyers verified that they had no touch with him, and an arrest order has been filed. In August, Gado, 45, was found guilty of indecently groping his victims during out-of-hours examinations at King’s Cross Hospital.
Sentencing had been postponed to allow for the completion of a social work report. “I appear without Dr Gado this morning,” defence attorney Sarah Livingstone stated during the sentencing hearing.
The court, I believe, has a letter from the social work department. There is no report. “His non-attendance is hardly surprising; he’s not been in communication since the verdict despite a number of calls.”
Passport seized
Both of Gado’s victims arrived at the out-of-hours service distressed and in pain during the same bank holiday weekend, April 29 to May 1, 2023.
One of the women assumed the Egyptian national was going to have sex with her when she felt him rub up against her.
Following Gado’s conviction, Sheriff Alastair Carmichael took the predator’s passport and granted him bail with the condition that he not leave the UK. According to the Courier, police visited Gado’s home in Broughty Ferry after he reportedly failed to join the sex offenders’ register.
Gado, who previously worked at Ninewells Hospital but no longer works for NHS Tayside, was not present on the property, and social workers entrusted with completing the pre-sentencing report were unable to contact him.
The phone number provided by the doctor appears to be either inactive or ringing.
Multiple people have privately expressed concern that the former Monifieth Health Centre GP may have fled the UK.
Ms Livingstone claimed she dialled Gado on the morning of the hearing, but it went straight to an answering machine.
He was found guilty of raping a sleeping student in St Andrews in 2023 by the High Court in Edinburgh, but he did not appear for the jury’s decision.
Trial evidence
During his trial, Gado, a father of five who received GP training at Monifieth Health Centre, denied treating one of his victims and claimed the other patient lied to jurors.
He arrived in the UK in 2018 and went to Scotland two years later to qualify as a general practitioner.
The former Dubai-based hospital registrar said he gave up his dream of becoming a consultant in order to raise the funds needed for him and his family to stay in Britain.
His crimes were revealed after one of the ladies informed her own GP, who reported his “grave concerns” to NHS Tayside.
One of the patients drove herself to King’s Cross in “excruciating” lower-body agony, thinking it was a tennis injury.
Gado operated without a chaperone, with one victim describing how she was left in a “state of shock” after the predator “massaged” and indecently stroked the lower portion of her body, including her breast.
The patient told the court that she could feel Gado’s erection after he turned her around and touched her buttocks.
Two days later, Gado cupped and handled the breasts of a woman who came in after hours.
In his own testimony, Gado alleged that the second woman may have been motivated by money to make a false accusation against him.
The jury reached a majority guilty finding on the two sexual assault charges and a not proven verdict on claims that he abused the two women by injection.
Following his initial arrest in 2023, Gado cooperated throughout the lengthy court process. Sheriff Carmichael issued a warrant for his arrest.
Police Scotland did not answer to The Courier’s request for comment on Gado’s current situation.
