Fire crews tackle inner-city wildfire.

Firefighters are battling a large wildfire in Sheffield’s Parkwood Springs area.

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said eight crews were dispatched to the scene on Penrith Road, and residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed due to smoke visible from the Hillsborough and Shirecliffe areas of the city.

A spokesperson stated: “Crews have worked tirelessly in extreme heat to bring this incident under control and are now in the process of cooling down.

“We anticipate to be on scene throughout the afternoon and into the evening.”
