A old Dundee nightclub and drill hall is about to go up for auction. The old Oxygen nightclub on Brown Street will be auctioned next week with a starting price of £175,000.
The two-story property features the former clubhouse, owner’s quarters, and a commercial garage with a yard and storage units.
According to Future Property Auctions, the site has “great potential” for redevelopment, including flats and student housing.
However, plans to demolish the historic nightclub and create more than 60 flats on the site were scrapped last year when Historic Environment Scotland objected.
The body emphasised the building’s significance as a former Territorial Army drill hall from 1909, citing its “eclectic Edwardian design” and demanding a rethinking of its usage.
The auction ad states that Dundee City Council has expressed a desire for residential development on the land.
It claims that amended housing plans will be “highly successful,” noting significant demand for social and private houses in the area. The building will be auctioned next Thursday (November 27) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The club was previously known as Dirty Den’s and The Fountain in the 1980s. When The Fountain opened in November 1983, it was the first club to feature lasers in its presentation. A fire in June 1985 caused significant damage and destroyed the roof.
