Edinburgh Trams has revealed their festive timetable for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays in 2025 and 2026, with trams running every day except Christmas.
On Hogmanay, Wednesday, December 31, trams will run a 10-minute service on either side of the closure, between Edinburgh Airport – West End and Picardy Place – Newhaven.
And, as in past years, all trams will be free after midnight, allowing you to securely return home after seeing the bells.
From midnight to 2 a.m., trams will run every 10 minutes, followed by frequent service until the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Normal daily service will return on Thursday, January 1, when Princes Street reopens, with trams running on both sides of the closure until

Register for free today! Before that, there will be regular workday service on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, with trams running every seven minutes to enable you buy those last-minute gifts.
There will be no services on Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25. From Friday, December 26 to Monday, December 29, typical weekday service returns, with trams running every seven minutes.
On Tuesday, December 30, there will be normal workday service until 5.50 p.m., when Princes Street will close in preparation for the Hogmanay Street Party.
Trams will run on either side of the closure from Edinburgh Airport to West End and Picardy Place to Newhaven until the end of operation. A representative for Edinburgh Trams said:
“As usual, we’ll run a regular service almost every day over the holiday season, ensuring that you can glide to festive events, Christmas parties, and home for Christmas almost uninterrupted.”
The exception is on Thursday, December 25, when tram services will be suspended for the day, allowing our employees to take a well-deserved rest.
“If you’re travelling from outside Edinburgh to the city, park at Ingliston Park & Ride and glide in!
There are almost a thousand free spaces available, and it is conveniently positioned just off the A8 Airport Junction, with trams running every seven minutes throughout the month.”
