Fulham coach asked me about Chukwueze – Iwobi

Fulham coach asked me about Chukwueze – Iwobi.

Nigeria player Alex Iwobi has spoken out about the indications he offered Fulham coach Marco Silva before the club signed his compatriot, Samuel Chukwueze, on loan from AC Milan, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Chukwueze joined Fulham on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day, joining teammates Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey at Craven Cottage.

His original loan included an option to buy, which is not required. According to Italian transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the total fee could exceed €25 million.

The 26-year-old finished his physical at the club’s training complex on Monday before flying to Nigeria for the World Cup qualifiers.

As the player prepares to make a fresh start in the EPL, Iwobi talked highly of him to their coach, Silva, before to his arrival.

“I’m excited because we know the quality Samuel has, and he wants to get a lot of playing time, and as a brother, I’m just going to give him the confidence to go and express himself and be the player that he is,” Iwobi told Football Temple at the time.

“Yes, Marcos Silva asked me about Chukwueze’s personality because he knows who he is as a player.

As a footballer, he is the sort to work hard. With three Nigerians already at Craven Cottage, Iwobi believes the squad will compete for a place in Europe next season.

“We remember our last season and want to be ambitious enough to do it again, especially with the new additions to the team. We have the ability to play in Europe, and hopefully we can do so.”

Chukwueze joined Milan from Spanish club Villarreal for €20 million during the summer transfer window in 2023, but he has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter for the Italian giants over the course of two seasons.

The Nigeria international had a mixed 2024/25 season, making 26 appearances with only nine starts in Serie A, totalling 918 minutes and scoring three goals and two assists.

This season, he has only played one game for Milan, a 26-minute cameo against Cremonese in the league opener.
