Leeds United have learnt that Fulham are willing to negotiate the transfer of Harry Wilson in January if one condition is met – an announcement that will undoubtedly cause uncertainty and frustration at Elland Road after the Whites missed out on the Wales forward’s deadline day signing.

Daniel Farke’s side made ten acquisitions this summer, providing its goalkeeping, defensive, and midfield positions a new look and greater depth for the next season.

However, while Leeds United made three forward additions, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor joining Lukas Nmecha, there are major fears that the club does not provide a sufficient threat going forward.

That has certainly been the case in their three Premier League games so far, with only one goal – a penalty – scored.

Frustratingly for Leeds, they did try to add more craft and cunning to their forward line in the final days of the window, but efforts to sign both Facundo Buonanotte and Wilson fell short – and the true reasons why a move for the 63-times capped Wales international failed emerged shortly after deadline day.

However, it has now been revealed that Fulham are willing to selling Wilson – and his departure appears to be more likely in the January window, given two developments at Craven Cottage.

According to the Mirror, the Cottagers have made it clear to suitors that Wilson can go in the winter window if he does not sign a new contract.

And, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season, the London club wants to ensure they don’t miss out on a fee for the 28-year-old.

Furthermore, with Marco Silva’s side bringing in two wingers on deadline day in Kevin and Samuel Chukwueze, Wilson appears to have been pushed out of the first-team picture at Craven Cottage, making their decision to cancel his transfer to Leeds all the more perplexing.

Fulham’s failure to sell Wilson to Leeds on deadline day continues to anger those in power at Elland Road.

In the days coming up to the transfer deadline, the Cottagers advised Leeds of the criteria required to seal his signing after a loan deal was rejected.

One idea behind the tactic is that they wanted to damage an opponent who could perhaps be relegated this season.

In any case, Leeds could reignite their interest in signing the winger in January, and TEAMtalk knows that intentions to enhance the squad during the winter window are still a possibility, despite managing director Robbie Evans’ comments that the club will not be active.

In discussing what happened on deadline day, the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Leeds United journalist Graham Smyth commented:

“Leeds felt there was one vacancy to fill, a right-wing 10 blend who could take set pieces, the tricky kind of incisive passer with a bit of magic, perhaps, something a little different.” That is what they felt they wanted. And when Buonanotte failed due to Chelsea’s issues, they turned their attention to Harry Wilson.

“Over the weekend, they were led to believe that Harry Wilson had been promised that he may move if certain requirements were met.

Leeds believe they more than met the requirements. Fulham were definitely conducting their own business.”I believe they spent over €90 million on wingers on deadline day, which is probably why they were considering letting Wilson go.

However, despite Leeds’ claims that they were encouraged to sign a deal sheet and granted an extra two hours to do so, Fulham decided not to trade Harry Wilson, leaving Leeds without a replacement after the deadline. “And then the meltdown happened.”
