‘Good players, good people’: Bradford City boss Graham Alexander on summer window recruitment and backing his own judgement

‘Good players, good people’: Bradford City boss Graham Alexander on summer window recruitment and backing his own judgement.

Graham Alexander believes that maxim has served Bradford City well in their summer recruitment.

Nick Powell, a former Manchester United and Stoke City player, joined the club this week, bringing their total number of signings to double figures. If things go as planned, there may still be room for another.

A slew of newcomers have not only made an impression on the pitch during the club’s unbeaten start to the season in the league and EFL Cup, but they have also been quickly accepted into the dressing room, adding to an already tight group.

Alexander stated, “Players want to play with good players. They want to look around the locker room and think, ‘decent, good lad, fit as anything, strong’. “I believe it helps you to have that feeling around your teammates.

Our team and squad focusses on achieving 10% growth. Then comes the acid test for character and personality. If you want to be your own guy and not be a part of this group, it won’t work.
We want the players to be who they are as individuals. However, if you’re playing a team game, you must blend in and be a member of the group. I have no doubt that Nick will not do that.

While many managers conduct character checks on all prospective signings and speak with rival bosses and players around the circuit, Alexander is one who will always trust his own judgement. “I think it’s important to make up your own mind,” he said afterwards.

“I can ask a player who has played in the same position, and he will say, ‘No, I wouldn’t sign him, he’s terrible.'” “But that means he’ll play.” You don’t need it.

He could be a great lad, but this guy has had an argument with him and refuses to do it. “You have to be careful.”
