The new faces just keep flooding in at Graham Potter’s West Ham United, with Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen set to join Callum Wilson, Diouf and El Hadji Malick and Kyle Walker-Peters.
Four players have joined the Hammers in as little as one month after they waited six weeks for their first summer window signing.
Following Leicester’s acceptance of a £18 million deal on Thursday, Mads Hermansen is headed to London. Along with former Southampton full-back Walker-Peters and former Newcastle striker Callum Wilson, the Dane gives Graham Potter’s team additional elite experience. He was one of the bright spots in the Foxes’ terrible Premier League season.
It is confirmed by Hammers News that West Ham needs to raise money for additional additions.
It is unlikely that Hermansen will be the only addition to West Ham United’s lineup this summer, though, as a dynamic central midfielder is desired and a young striker is also a possibility—reports in France indicate Mets prodigy Idrissa Gueye might sign a possible £13 million contract.
However, in his remarks prior to Saturday’s friendly matchup with LOSC Lille, Graham Potter emphasized the strengths of two much more obscure additions: Casper Ankergren and Linus Kandolin.
Graham Potter welcomes Linus Kandolin and Casper Ankergren to West Ham United
In May, West Ham said goodbye to Xavi Valero. The seasoned Spaniard left seven years after joining Manuel Pellegrini’s coaching staff in 2018.
Ankergren and Kandolin take his position, and the Hammers revamp and restructure their goalkeeping unit.
In the English city, Kandolin reunites with a familiar face after working with Potter while he established himself in Sweden with Ostersunds. A few weeks later, Ankergren assumed the position of Lead First-Team Goalkeeper Coach, while Kandolin was thrilled to be named West Ham’s First-Team Goalkeeper Coach.
According to Potter, Casper Ankergren has joined the coaching team as the Lead First-Team Goalkeeper Coach. Linus Kandolin will support him, the club’s official website states.
“Both of these people are great trainers who will be of great assistance to us; I have worked with them before, at Brighton and Ostersunds, respectively.
We have loved spending a lot of time together cultivating a strong sense of teamwork. There is a strong bond between the staff and the players, and the squad is quite cohesive. We’re quite pleased with the surroundings and the culture, and we expect that these things will only become better as time goes on.
At Brondby, Ankergren collaborated with Leicester star Mads Hermansen.
Linus Kandolin, who is still only 34, joins from Elfsborg of Sweden after having effectively “taken the goalkeeping coach role to another level” at his previous employers.
Hakon Valdimirsson, who recently joined Brentford, became Iceland’s new number one thanks in large part to Kandolin’s experience.
After four years at Danish powerhouse Brondby, Ankergren, who was the goalie for Leeds United and Brighton & Hove Albion, joins.
According to Hammers News, Ankergren supported West Ham’s pursuit of Mads Hermansen during a period when John Victor, Michael Zetterer, Djordje Petrovic, Zion Suzuki, and Mads Hermansen were also being considered.
When they worked together at Brondby in 2023, Ankergren called Hermansen a “fantastic” talent.
Just before finalizing his £5 million transfer to Leicester City, the player who is expected to wear the number one jersey at West Ham stated, “Casper Ankergren has challenged me and helped to raise my level.”
“Mentally as well as technically.”
