Harry Wilson update will not go down well with Leeds United fans

On the summer transfer deadline, Leeds nearly signed Harry Wilson from Fulham.

The Wales international was first targeted for a loan signing, but as the minutes passed, negotiations intensified and shifted to a permanent agreement, even prompting Leeds to submit a deal sheet to the Premier League.

When asked if a January deal is feasible, Beren Cross of The Athletic has now given an update after a trade for Harry Wilson ultimately fell through.

Beren Cross dashes expectations that Leeds may make another move for Harry Wilson.

It appears that Leeds will only pursue the Fulham No. 8 again in January, contingent on the situation.

Cross stated that if there were an injury issue in the offensive department under Daniel Farke between now and January, Leeds might take another look at a bid for Wilson.

Sales would have to be made before a new transfer for the Fulham forward could occur, as Leeds are reportedly currently over their limit in terms of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) projections.

Given the need for a new winger on the right flank, it appears that the answer is no unless a lot happens at Elland Road in the upcoming weeks. This is sure to annoy some Leeds supporters.

Wilson, however, is now leaving Fulham as a free agent at the end of the season because his contract expires in July.

In order to avoid the 28-year-old being turned down by bids from other teams, the Cottagers must finalize a new contract before the winter transfer window.

The current status of Fulham’s Harry Wilson contract

Wilson, who is admired by Jermaine Beckford, stated in a June speech: “We are in talks for a new deal. Hopefully, we can come to an agreement on my primary choice, which would be to sign a new contract with Fulham.

“I know how much he wants to stay in the football club,” Fulham manager Marco Silva said in a September update. We are having conversations with his representatives as well, of course, and we will have to wait and see what happens.

“I am certain that his goal is to remain with the football team, and if he can reach an agreement, he will have a bright future with us.”

But since such remarks were made more than a month ago, Leeds will believe they have a chance in January the longer Fulham waits to announce a new contract for Wilson.
