Hearts and Hibs duo will have ‘field day’ against Rangers as pundit senses pair will cause havoc at Ibrox
Hearts and Hibs duo will have ‘field day’ against Rangers as pundit senses pair will cause havoc at Ibrox.
Both Hearts and Hibernian will meet Rangers in the coming weeks. Hearts and Hibs have been backed to leave Rangers reeling in upcoming games against the struggling Ibrox club.
Russell Martin is already struggling in Glasgow after three victories out of ten, and Wednesday’s sobering 6-0 loss to Club Brugge in the second leg of their Champions League play-off, which was crushed 9-1 on aggregate, has turned many fans against him.
The head coach now faces a tough derby against Celtic this Saturday, followed by Hearts in the Premiership, before Hibs travel to Ibrox for the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals.
The Rangers’ defence has been vulnerable in the early portion of the season.
Ian McCall, an experienced SPFL manager, was on Sportsound’s coverage of Rangers’ defeat in Belgium and believes Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland and Hibs’ Kieron Bowie will run amok in Glasgow based on current watching.
Hearts and Hibs pair backed to give Rangers the fear
When asked for his reaction to Martin’s press appearance in Belgium, he replied, “Listen, what else can he say? I believe he stated all he should have said, but the proof will be in whether players put their bodies on the line and mark their opponent.
When someone makes a forward movement against them, they respond by picking them up, taking responsibility for the ball, and being more aggressive in possession.
The biggest issue for me right now is centre-backs pushing full-backs in too narrowly and letting crosses into their box too easily, so that’s where it’ll come, that’s where the proof will come, and the proof is all these tiny things like that. But in terms of a news conference, I’m not sure what anyone else wants him to say.
I believe he performed admirably, but he will not be foolish. I believe he will understand that if they defend like that against Celtic, much alone Hibs or Hearts, they will win.
“If Lawrence Shankland has that much area in the box to shift people around, he’ll have a field day, as will Kieron Bowie. The proof will be in the pudding; they need to improve over the next two or three games.
Russell Martin on Rangers defeat vs Club Brugge
Martin stated in his press conference: “We’re still trying to figure out the best XI. On Sunday (at home to Celtic), we need to field a team that is willing to offer everything.” “I don’t think I’ve learnt anything new;
I’m just embarrassed by our defeat. It’s definitely the most difficult night I’ve had as a head coach. It does not affect the reality that I believe we will evolve, advance, and grow.”
“I do not believe we need to win on Sunday to secure my job. We need to win to make ourselves and the fans happy, and to give them a performance to be proud of.
There’s a lot of self-inflicted pain. Our response to disappointment is so inadequate.
I understand the fans’ dissatisfaction and rage because they want to see a club they can be proud of. There was nothing to be proud about.
