Hearts CEO Andrew McKinlay makes Champions League claim

Andrew McKinlay, CEO of Hearts, makes a Champions League claim

If the Gorgie team defeats Dundee this afternoon, they might lead the Scottish Premiership by nine points.

McKinlay thinks his team can win the championship and introduce top-tier European football to the Scottish capital, whether it’s this season or a little later. “We’re confident that at some point we will have Champions League music playing here [at Tynecastle Park],” he stated in an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live today. I’m not sure if we’ll win the league this season or not, but we will.” According to McKinlay’s most recent quarterly CEO update with HeartsTV, Tony Bloom will not be able to increase that come January after investing close to £10 million in the club for a 29% shareholding.

“I think one other thing just to touch upon is that yes, we’ll have the benefit of Jamestown Analytics and that is massively important to allow us to kick on if we do feel we need new players in January or indeed next summer,” he continued. However, there has been some discussion about Tony Bloom investing additional money in the club if we are in a strong position.

“I think it’s crucial to underline that Tony isn’t really in a position to do that; he stated as much when he addressed the Foundation members in August at the start of the season, specifically regarding UEFA regulations. “I just want to make sure that everyone is aware of it, but I have no doubt that we will have a team in January that will enable us to give ourselves the greatest chance possible during the remainder of the season. These are extremely exciting times, and I’m eager for what lies ahead.”
