Hearts target free agent German star to bolster problem position as Derek McInnes eyes swoop for Brazil midfielder.

He might be the club’s TENTH signing of the transfer window. HEARTS are looking for veteran free agent German custodian Alexander Schwolow.

SunSport knows that the former Union Berlin, Schalke, and Hertha Berlin player has been identified as an ideal replacement for Craig Gordon and Ryan Fulton, who are both out injured.

Derek McInnes, who is also interested in signing Brazilian midfielder Ageu from Santa Clara for a six-figure fee, has been looking to improve his goalie options.

Schwolow represented Germany at the under-20 level and has played over 270 games. For the past two seasons, the 33-year-old has served mostly as a backup option at Union Berlin.

However, his impressive pedigree and quick availability have made him an appealing prospect for Tynecastle, who are looking to sign a new custodian before Monday evening’s transfer deadline.

He appeared in seven games during his two years at Union, when he was teammates with former Celtics great Josip Juranovic.

Hearts have already signed Christian Borchgrevink, Alexandros Kyziridis, Oisin McEntee, Cláudio Braga, Sabah Kerjota, Tómas Bent Magnússon, and Pierre Landry Kaboré this summer.

They also signed Elton Kabangu on a permanent basis from Union Saint-Gilloise and added Stuart Findlay on loan from Oxford United.

The Jambos have gone unbeaten in their first three Premiership games this season, but were eliminated from the Premier Sports Cup by St Mirren on penalties.

They defeated Aberdeen 2-0 in their league debut, then Findlay scored an improbable double, including a stoppage time winner, to enable them defeat Dundee United 3-2 at Tannadice.

Motherwell then held them to a 3-3 draw the next week at Tynecastle. While Gordon has seen little action, new right-back Borchgrevink is continuing his therapy after being sidelined with a thigh injury, while defender Jamie McCart is close to returning.

McInnes continued, “We might reimage Christian because he’s feeling better than the scans show.” Perhaps the week after next. “I certainly don’t think it’ll be any longer than what we said but he’s out doing a bit of jogging at the minute.” Jamie trained extensively on Thursday.

We expected him to return to training after the international break, so he’s ahead of schedule.”
