Hibs star provides update on Easter Road future with contract up in 2026 as he targets major club milestone

Hibs star provides update on Easter Road future with contract up in 2026 as he targets major club milestone.

The star is a fan favourite at Hibs, but his contract expires next summer. Martin Boyle has delivered an update on his long-term Hibs plans, putting a vital Easter Road goal on his radar.

The 32-year-old is a modern-day Easter Road legend, having made 377 appearances, scored 103 goals, and provided 70 assists in two stays since his initial loan arrival in 2015.

He is also an Australian international, and he hopes to be part of the Socceroos’ World Cup 2026 squad next summer.

There were talks of Boyle leaving Hibs in the summer, but his contract was extended for the 25/26 season by another year.

Talk of his future will resurface next summer, when he might become a free agent, but Boyle, speaking to JDL Media while on international duty with Australia for games against Canada and the United States, says it’s not something he’s thinking about right now, with the 400-game milestone on his mind.

Martin Boyle on Hibs future

He responded, “No, it is still early in the season. Naturally, as I get older, I begin to think about it more. However, I prefer to let the football speak for itself.

If I perform well, there may be suitors. If not, consider football. It’s rough. By the end of the season, competition may grow fierce. Never before had I been a free agent. But it’s a long way away.

I have ambitions; I know I’ll be 33 when the World Cup comes around, but I still have dreams to realise and goals to achieve, which include attending the World Cup and, of course, performing excellently for Hibernian.

“I’ve got to the 100 [goals] club for Hibs. I’d like to get to 400 appearances. It would be a good milestone, and I feel like I’ve been consistent. My injuries, I missed a lot [of football], but I’m thankful I’ve come back strong as ever. But, yeah, going to the World Cup and representing Hibernian would be a really nice feeling.”

Martin Boyle on playing for Australia at World Cup

Boyle understands that if Australian head coach Tony Popovic chooses him for World Cup action, he must perform well for Hibs. He’s missed some opportunities on the international stage, and the Hibs forward is eager to rectify that.

The attacker continued, “I have to keep playing at club level — scoring goals and assisting is what I’m paid to do.

I have to do that, keep working hard, and avoid getting caught up in the moment. Someone can take your place – you can put in all of your effort, and someone else can come in and replace you.
“So, first and foremost, I need to maintain being myself, working hard, and doing what I’ve done throughout my career while enjoying it.

Obviously, I want to score more goals and contribute to the nation. I’ve certainly missed a few opportunities [in recent games], and they can eat away at you. So, if I just remain calm, I am confident that goals and opportunities will present themselves.”
