Arbroath welcomes new Aldi supermarket

Aldi, a German grocery operator, has built its first store in Arbroath’s Dundee Road Retail Park.

The 18,500-square-foot store employs a store manager as well as 22 employees.

It was inaugurated on November 27 by Winter Olympic gold medallist Vicky Wright and Muirfield Primary School students.

On its first day, a steady stream of customers visited the £16 million supermarket, and the store’s first client told The Courier that Aldi was “good for Arbroath”.

New Flannels fashion store opens in Dundee

Flannels, a luxury clothing brand, has launched a new store at Dundee’s Overgate Shopping Centre.

The Frasers Group-owned outlet debuted on the center’s upper floor on November 27. The store had been unoccupied since June, following USC’s closure.

Flannels has over 50 locations in the UK, selling apparel for men, women, and children.

M&S reveals where it wants to open new stores

There is talk that Marks & Spencer may open new grocery stores in seven locations across Tayside, Fife, and Stirling. The company is looking for larger premises as it expands its food division and modernises its existing shops.

It has identified 500 prospective new or modernised sites, including Broughty Ferry, Dunblane, Dunfermline, Glenrothes, Inveralmond in Perth, Montrose, and St Andrews.

Cake Box plans new Dundee shop

Cake Box, a national cake company, has submitted proposals for an empty shop building in Dundee’s city centre.
Amplifon, a hearing aid firm, originally held the 110sqm building on Reform Street, however it has been unoccupied since January 2019.
Cake Box has over 230 outlets in the UK and does not use eggs in its cakes.

Perthshire firm buys three Newport Bakery shops

A Perthshire-based hotel company has acquired three of renowned chef Jamie Scott’s Newport Bakery locations.

Ballintaggart has bought branches in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, and Newport-on-Tay.

The new owner will keep existing employees at the stores and continue to carry Newport Bakery products. Mr Scott, a previous MasterChef:

The Professionals winner, will continue to run the firm’s Arbroath branch.

Fashion brand aims to reopen Dundee store

Bee Inspired has pledged to reopen its store in Dundee’s Overgate following the apparel brand’s insolvency.

Steven Robb and Mark Corcoran, Perth-born footballers, started the streetwear business in 2013, and they want to open a store in the Overgate in April 2024.

Gareth Moore, a former Scottish rugby league player, has acquired Bee Inspired’s assets.

A Dundee publican has announced plans to reopen St Michaels Inn near Leuchars.

Graham Bradley, owner of the Craigie Bar and Albert Bar in Dundee, is renovating the establishment. He intends to reopen the hotel in early December.

The hotel, which is well-known for its restaurant, went on the market earlier this month after its kitchen shut down in July.

Earlier this month, Arbroath welcomed a new family-run restaurant, deli, and gift shop. Darren and Jess Spink have created Port Kitchen in the former Murray Refrigeration location on Keptie Street.

The couple already operates the Tailend restaurant and takeout in St Andrews. Hayley Smith, Darren’s sister, has also launched Studio 83, a gift shop and craft studio in the same site.

Cupar cafe put up for sale

Milly’s Kitchen, a Cupar cafe that shuttered on September 26, was listed for sale earlier this month.

The family-run venue on Sun Close, near Bonnygate, has been running for more than four years and is offered for sale for more than £130,000.

Dundee couple open new music bar

A couple in Dundee has turned an old restaurant into a new tavern on Old Hawkhill.

Suzanne and Phillip Kirk opened Vinyls Music Bar earlier this month, after the old Loca Rita facility had been unoccupied for 18 months.

Former Cupar hotel and pub for sale

The Cupar Arms Hotel on East Burnside has been put on the market after closing in spring 2024.

There was no explanation offered for the venue’s closure, and it is now for sale for a recommended price of £229,000.

Plans for Glenrothes drive-through restaurants

Two new drive-through eateries could develop in Glenrothes following the submission of applications for two food outlets at Eastfield Industrial Estate.

 

The 1.22-hectare plot near the A92 is near the Glenrothes Travelodge.

According to an application filed by Bluewater (Glenrothes 1) Ltd, the site has been vacant for more than 20 years.

Former Bridge of Allan pub could be reopened

The Old Bridge Inn might reopen under a new name, according to plans filed with Stirling Council.

Gary McGregor, a publican from Alloa, wants to convert the restaurant on Inverallan Road into a pub and restaurant.

If authorised, it would be known as McGregors – The Old Bridge Inn and operated by the same people that own the McGregors bar in Alloa.

Dundee ice cream parlour closes for winter break

Jannettas Ice Cream Parlour in Dundee’s Slessor Gardens is closed for the winter season. The company will also close its St Andrews cafe for around a month following January 5.

The property at Dundee Waterfront closed on November 17 and will reopen in February of next year.
