High Street round-up: Dundee shop and restaurant changes and Arbroath Home Bargains opens.

Arbroath Home Bargains opens

In Arbroath, the bargain store Home Bargains has inaugurated a new location worth £10 million.

Fifty local jobs have been generated by the new store at Elliot Retail Park on Dundee Road.

When Home Bargains debuted on Saturday, large crowds of people went there, telling The Courier that it was a “great” addition to the community.

Dundee’s Entertainer toy store is closing. The business claims that extending the lease on its Wellgate Shopping Centre location is “not commercially viable.” January 5 is when it is scheduled to close.

Convenience store plans for former Dundee bank

A convenience store could be built in place of a defunct Dundee bank. The 1st Stop 2 Shop now occupies the former RBS at the intersection of Kingsway and Strathmartine Road.

The new store will be the brand’s second location in the city if plans are approved. Additionally, the chain includes stores in Forfar, Brechin, and Kirriemuir.

Blairgowrie mum opening beauty salon

A teenage businesswoman is opening her own beauty parlour in Blairgowrie. Mum-of-two Victoria Burns, 27, told The Courier that her difficult childbirth provided a “wake-up call” to launch Botanique.

On November 3, it will begin trading on the High Street.

Stirling’s New Look goes to auction

Stirling’s New Look building is expected to be sold at auction. The four-story property on Port Street will be auctioned off next month.

The opening bid for the unit is £896,000. It comes after plans to convert the property into two retail units, a cafe or restaurant, and a hotel or student housing were unveiled.

Menkind opens in Stirling

A popular gift and gadget store has opened in Stirling. Menkind, which focusses in men’s items, has moved into the Thistles Shopping Centre. This is the brand’s seventh Scottish outlet.

Dunfermline Pizza Hut saved but Dundee closure

After the chain’s restaurant operators filed into administration, a Dunfermline Pizza Hut was saved from closure. However, the restaurant at Kingsway Retail Park in Dundee has closed.

Administrators appointed to DC London Pie, the company that operates Pizza Hut’s UK dine-in restaurants, revealed that 68 locations would close across the country.

New buffet restaurant for Dundee

A new globe buffet has opened in Dundee, just weeks after the last eatery at the location closed.

Businessman Fakhar Iqbal, who previously ran Delhi Darbar in Downfield until roughly 2020, has taken over the old City Harbour Chinese buffet location.

Lal Qila Buffet at City Quay will provide “homestyle” Indian and Pakistani cuisine.

Coffee shop ‘giving back to community’ opens in Broughty Ferry

A new coffee business “giving back to the community” has opened in Broughty Ferry. Valerie Duguid owns Time DD5, located on Grey Street.

It will function as a social enterprise, with income flowing to her community interest corporation (CIC), Gymology.

Soft play and cafe opening in Perth

A Perth mother is opening a children’s soft play centre and cafe. Caralyn Bowers, 31, founded the company in 2023 but closed it when she became pregnant with twins.

She will open Stay and Play on Princes Street this week, with a soft play town for kids and a cafe.
