HOUNSLOW LEADERS OFFER SUPPORT AFTER MANCHESTER SYNAGOGUE ATTACK

HOUNSLOW LEADERS OFFER SUPPORT AFTER MANCHESTER SYNAGOGUE ATTACK.

Hounslow Council Leader, Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, and the Hounslow Conservative Group have made statements in response to the attack on Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Greater Manchester this morning.

A member of the public alerted police to the synagogue on Middleton Road in Crumpsall at 9.31 a.m., claiming to have witnessed a car being driven at members of the public and one guy being stabbed.

At 9.34 a.m., police dispatched firearms officers in response to additional complaints from the public that a security guard had been attacked with a knife. Greater Manchester Police declared PLATO and a serious incident at 9.37 a.m.

This lunchtime, police announced three deaths, including the perpetrator, who was shot by GMP Firearms officers.

In reaction to the significant incident, a loud bang was heard at the scene as professional resources obtained access to the suspect’s vehicle for safety.

A considerable number of persons praying at the synagogue at the time of the event were detained inside until the immediate vicinity was safe to depart.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson stated, “We are aware that today’s horrific attack on the Jewish community’s holiest day will have caused significant shock and fear throughout all of our communities.”

“We are grateful to the member of the public whose prompt response to what they witnessed allowed us to take action, and as a result, the perpetrator was prevented from entering the synagogue.

“We remain in close contact with all synagogues in Greater Manchester to provide reassurance, and this will continue for as long as necessary. “We will continue to post updates as they become available, but if you feel you have a loved one engaged in today’s tragedy, please contact the Casualty Bureau first.

“I would also ask that anyone who may have images or footage relating to today’s incident refrain from circulating them on social media and instead share them directly with GMP.”

Cllr Rajawat stated, “I am shocked and saddened to hear about the appalling incident that occurred at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Greater Manchester today.” My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who has been affected by this awful assault, as well as the Jewish community in Hounslow.

“On Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, we stand together with our Jewish neighbours and express our condolences and compassion to them.”

”I am extremely happy to lead a borough as varied as Hounslow: our strength stems from the fact that we live, work, and grow together, with respect, understanding, and harmony.

“I want to reassure everyone who lives, works, or studies in Hounslow that we are firmly against hatred, racism, and division.” The Hounslow Conservative Group made the following statement:

”We are shocked and very grieved by the awful attacks in Manchester today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected.

“This incident, which occurred on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, a day of prayer, contemplation, and healing, is especially shocking and brutal.

We fully support the Jewish community in Manchester, Hounslow, and around the country. “Such an assault on people in prayer is an assault on all of us.”

We strongly condemn this act of bigotry and reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding every community’s freedom to worship in peace and security.

“We also commend the emergency services and first responders for their bravery and professionalism.

“In Hounslow, we will continue to collaborate closely with our Jewish community, other faith and community leaders, and the police to ensure that everyone feels safe and supported.”

“Now, more than ever, we must stand together against hate and division.”
