Hove resident slams seafront public toilet opening hours.
A woman has called the opening hours of seaside public toilets “ridiculous” since she believes people will urinate elsewhere. Jan Jemson regularly walks along the promenade between Hove and Brighton in the morning.
Ms Jemson, who lives in Hove, claims the toilets on the seafront are becoming increasingly inaccessible, despite signage indicating that they are available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
She stated that the short operating hours will “prevent her from walking” since she may not be able to use the loo.
The 62-year-old stated: “A few weeks ago, I noticed these signs go up that will prevent me from walking.

“I can’t take the danger of being unable to use the restroom. “It will also generate this inequality among people.
“I began to believe that while it is inconvenient for me, it is absolutely necessary for others to have access to a public toilet.
“There are many people with IBS, young children, the elderly, and homeless persons who require bathroom facilities. “Where will all these people be going?
“We are a tourism city. We’re stating you can only use public restrooms during certain hours. “This is ludicrous. “It won’t stop people from going to the restroom. “It’s gross.”

Ms Jemson stated that she called Brighton and Hove City Council regarding the opening hours and was told that some “might be open before 10am”. “They can’t expect people to rely on a possibility,” she pointed out.
Councillor Tim Rowkins, cabinet member for net zero and environmental services at Brighton and Hove City Council, stated, “We well understand the need for people to have access to public toilets and have made them a priority.
