Huddersfield Town backed over Rhys Healey transfer decision after “concerning” Terriers trend

Huddersfield Town backed over Rhys Healey transfer decision after “concerning” Terriers trend.

This piece is in Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, which offers our FLW Fan Pundits their personal thoughts on the newest breaking news, teams, players, managers, possible additions, and more.

Rhys Healey, a striker for Huddersfield Town, has been loaned to Barrow AFC of League Two until January after losing favour with new boss Lee Grant.

In an attempt to make amends for the mistakes of the previous season and advance out of League One, the Terriers have been extremely busy this summer. As a result, the front line has been redesigned, with Alfie May leading the charge.

However, the struggling Healey quickly found playing catch up after his most recent injury, as May, Joe Taylor and Dion Charles all sat ahead of him in the pecking order at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The 30-year-old was then moved out on loan to Barrow of League Two, which was somewhat of a surprise but also seemed to be the wisest course of action for everyone.

A few years ago, Healey was scoring goals for fun at Toulouse, France. However, since returning to England, he has struggled with fitness at both Watford and Huddersfield, struggling to find form, and his £2 million move to the Accu Stadium has just not worked out.

Following the confirmation of the striker’s temporary transfer to Holker Street, Football League World asked resident Huddersfield fan commentator, Graham Rayner, if this was the right choice.

“Yes, I believe that sending Rhys Healey out on loan is the right decision,” Graeme replied.

He is obviously very talented. In terms of skill, he is most likely a striker on par with the Championship. His fitness problems, however, are extremely worrisome.

According to rumours, we might have solved them, and his surgery over the summer might resolve those problems. The issue is that he needs to demonstrate his abilities on the pitch with playing time, and he is unlikely to have the chance to do so at Huddersfield.

“The most important thing for us is winning games and getting out of the division, so by sending him out on loan to Barrow until January, that gives him four months to realistically prove his fitness, [and] improve his fitness.

“He should score a tonne of goals if he is healthy enough to play in League Two. He may return to us in January and assist us in crossing the finish line, ideally in the second half of the season, if he accomplishes that.”

“If he doesn’t [prove his fitness], then at least we know, so I think it is the right decision either way,” Graeme said.

Lee Grant will see first-hand if Rhys Healey has a future at Huddersfield Town with his Barrow stint

Healey’s time back in England has unfortunately been marred by injury issues, which have prevented him from being selected frequently and caused him to fall down the ranks.

Although dropping into League Two to play for Barrow might come as a surprise, a loan is the ideal method to get the 30-year-old back up to speed with regular minutes after his operation, which could help him retain his fitness. It also gives him the chance to flourish in a less demanding environment.

However, Barrow trains every day in Manchester rather than the Cumbrian town, and Huddersfield isn’t that far away. Additionally, given the competitive nature of the Terriers’ current squad, the striker would only occasionally play in cup competitions, which isn’t what he needs right now to restart his career.

Overall, this short-term transfer allows Healey to establish himself with Grant and demonstrate that, even with his fitness concerns possibly resolved, he can still contribute to Huddersfield.
