Huge chunk of concrete falls from building in Cardiff city centre.

Churchill Way remains closed, causing transport disruptions, including car parking and bus stops.

A large slab of concrete has fallen from a structure in Cardiff’s city centre. Storm Amy’s strong winds caused major damage to one of the buildings, forcing a busy city centre road to close from Saturday until Tuesday afternoon.

A big portion of Churchill Way in Cardiff was closed for many days, preventing many workers from parking and cutting off a number of city centre bus stops.

Churchill Way was blocked to pedestrians from the Guildford Street intersection to Station Terrace near Cardiff Queen Street station, with the part near the Capitol shopping mall also closed.

The closure rendered the 388-space Capitol shopping centre parking lot inaccessible, as well as several bus stops along the road.

Offices also stated that they were unable to receive post as a result of the closure. A Cardiff Council spokesman confirmed that building control officers visited the concerned property on North Edward Street on Monday.

Following their investigation, it was determined that the closure should continue in place until the hazard was adequately resolved.

The official added, “The council is in contact with the property owner to ensure that the necessary remedial work is completed as soon as possible so that the road can be reopened.”

Any expenditures incurred by the closure and the associated traffic management will be the responsibility of the owner, not the council.”

Workers at Bomber’s Sandwich House on Charles Street told WalesOnline that they had been unable to park in their usual spaces at the Capitol shopping mall since Saturday because the road was closed.

Daniella Page, the owner of Bomber’s, stated, “I was driving in [on Monday] to park in the Capitol shopping centre, but it was obviously closed and there was no other entrance, so I had to park elsewhere.”

I wouldn’t say it affected our number of customers, but it did affect our commute to work. “We have not heard anything about when it will reopen.

It’s slightly unpleasant to not know when it will reopen, but perhaps we’ll find out soon.”

Daniella went further: “I pay a monthly fee to park in Capitol but I can’t park there so I’m having to park in St David’s, which is obviously more expensive, or rely on public transport which isn’t always the best.” On Saturday evening, South Wales Police said on Facebook:

“We’re at the scene of an incident on Churchill Way in Cardiff.” “The road is currently closed in both directions from the junction with Guildford Street.

North Edward Street is closed in both directions. “It is expected to be blocked for some time; please avoid the area and take other routes wherever possible. We appreciate your patience.

The police have already confirmed that the closure is due to building damage caused by high winds.
