Hundreds pay final respects at funeral for Uxbridge police officer killed in highway crash.

Hundreds of law enforcement officers attended the funeral of Uxbridge police officer Stephen LaPorta on Thursday, more than a week after he was slain in the line of duty.

LaPorta was assisting a driver following a mishap on snowy Route 146 in the early hours of January 7 when he was struck by a tractor-trailer. He died at the spot. LaPorta, who lived in Uxbridge, was 43 years old. He leaves behind a wife and a 13-year-old son.

At this time, no charges have been filed in the investigation, which is being conducted by Massachusetts State Police.

On January 15, 2026, hundreds of police officers lined up outside St. Mary’s Church in Franklin to attend the funeral of Uxbridge Officer Stephen LaPorta.

Before the service began at 11 a.m., officers gathered near the intersection outside St. Mary’s Church in Church Square in Franklin. Cameras were not permitted inside the church. Officer LaPorta will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Granite Street in Uxbridge.

He spent 17 years working as a full-time dispatcher and detail officer in Mendon until becoming a full-time police officer in Uxbridge in June 2024.

“Officer LaPorta devoted his life in service to this community, a sacrifice we will never forget, and we consider him a hero. “This is a devastating loss for our department and community,” Uxbridge Police Chief Marc Montminy stated last week.

Uxbridge, Massachusetts, is approximately 45 miles southwest of Boston and 25 miles north of Providence, Rhode Island.
