Ipswich man sentenced for ‘unprovoked’ knife threat.
A 23-year-old Ipswich man has received a suspended sentence after being convicted of threatening a lady with a knife.
Ashley Brown of Troon Gardens, Ipswich, appeared before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court last month.
He was charged with threatening someone with an aggressive weapon, bladed article, or corrosive substance in a private setting.
This was in reference to an incident on April 29 of this year, when a woman was threatened with a serrated knife at an Ipswich location.
According to a court record, Brown acknowledged to the accusation, and his guilty plea was considered.Brown was sentenced to four months in jail, with a one-year suspension.
The court determined that the attack was “unprovoked,” however the jail sentence was suspended due to a “prospect of rehabilitation.” The blade involved in the event was forfeited and destroyed. Brown was ordered to pay the Crown Prosecution Service’s £85 costs and a £154 surcharge.
The offender was ordered to pay the sums within 28 days after his sentencing, and the money would be taken from his benefits.
