Newly-promoted Charlton pulled off a surprise win in Suffolk, thumping the imploding Blues 3-0 at Portman Road, courtesy of three goals in 12 second half minutes.

Ipswich fell in 12 second-half minutes against Charlton. After the game, veteran Young, who started at right back, remarked, “I believe we are the team that everyone wants to beat.”

“We are one of the clubs that have emerged from the Premier League. Charlton celebrated after the game as if they had won the cup final. “I think, for many teams, that’s what it will be like.”

In words quoted by Charlton reporter Richard Cawley, Jones retorted: “Ashley Young is an experienced guy with a wonderful career. I’m sure he was pleased with the result versus Manchester City or whatever.

“I have huge respect for Ashley. Huge. Wonderful player. Having a pop at us, we have a fraction of their budget, possibly a tenth.

“If you multiply their budget by ten, it will most likely be £300-400 million, which would result in them winning the Champions League final.

They would be up against Juventus or Bayern Munich. “If he thinks we overcelebrated, I apologise. We did not. We just loved beating undoubtedly the league’s greatest club.”
