Ipswich Town Recall Mentioned As Loanee Features For Parent Club

Parent Club Mentioned Ipswich Town Recall as Loanee Features

A journalist in Ipswich phoned me to enquire as to why he wasn’t playing, and the East Anglian Daily Times, one of the top local news publications still in operation, made the same point in a story. Town supporters were quite interested in Barbrook this summer, and a January recall does appear likely. He played every minute of our EFL Trophy campaign throughout his three appearances for the Imps. He was excellent in two of those games, and he appeared at ease in the third. Because of this, the local news source wrote an article about him and made it clear that his loan has a recall clause for January. Is it foreshadowing? Maybe.

Barbrook has also maintained his sharpness and match fitness by making frequent appearances for Ipswich’s under-21 team in Premier League 2. Conor McGrandles, Tom Bayliss, and Ivan Varfolomeev are all fighting for spots in our midfield, which is still very competitive, but first-team opportunities have been few. He is the second most productive player in Ipswich’s Under 21 lineup, after Tudor Mendel-Idowu, having scored three goals and contributed an assist. He has made seven appearances, contributing to victories against Manchester United, Liverpool, and Leeds United in addition to scoring against Brighton, Newcastle, and Leeds. His passing statistics, which highlight his talent, are also excellent for his team.

That’s no small accomplishment considering that Ipswich leads Premier League 2, surpassing Manchester United, Chelsea, and 26 other academies. He set up a goal in their 4-2 loss to Sunderland on Friday, which was his most recent appearance. I really worry if we are in possession of a jewel that we are truly unable to utilise. He won’t start ahead of our regular midfield combo, Tom Bayliss and Conor McGrandles, but Dom Jefferies started there last night, adding another name to the list of men he must replace. Fin might be the right player at the wrong time, especially because club record signing Ivan Varfolomeev is still settling in.

The situation reminds me a little of Robbie Gotts, who I thought was a neat and tidy player who always looked sharp when on loan from Leeds. Gotts couldn’t force a chance at Sincil Bank, and ironically, he could line up for Doncaster this weekend. Without Varfolomeev, we have a spot on the bench for a backup. You would expect Jefferies, but will we also see Fin there, perhaps even getting late minutes if we need to shore things up? If not, Ipswich may use that recall option.
