Jimmy Thelin Aberdeen press conference before critical Kilmarnock trip.
Ryan Cryle provides updates from Aberdeen’s faltering press conference ahead of their midweek Premiership game against Kilmarnock.
Follow all of the main developments from Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin’s pre-match news conference ahead of their midweek Premiership trip to Kilmarnock.
The heat is back on Aberdeen manager Thelin and his players ahead of Wednesday’s Premiership away encounter against Killie.
After a temporary improvement in domestic fortunes, the last week has seen terrible performances away to AEK Athens in the Conference League (a record 6-0 European defeat) and at home to Hibs in the Premiership (2-1 loss).
With Reds fans’ displeasure with their club reaching a boiling point, the Dons, who are second-bottom in the league, must get back on track at Rugby Park.
On Tuesday at 1.30pm, Thelin and one of his Aberdeen players will meet with the media at Cormack Park to preview the Killie match. Ryan Cryle, a sports writer, has all the crucial developments here:
Jimmy Thelin: Me and Lutz have ideas to work together – I’m not concerned for my job due to his arrival
1.30pm: Jimmy Thelin opens his news conference by discussing Aberdeen’s new sporting director, Lutz Pfannenstiel.
He claims they’ve discussed the latter’s appointment and hope to collaborate after Pfannenstiel arrives at the club in a few weeks. Thelin stated, “Lutz and I have discussed our future plans.
“We have some ideas and I’m looking forward to when he arrives here.” Is the Dons manager, who has struggled to produce regular performances and results, anxious that his career may be jeopardised by the arrival of the club’s new football manager? “No – as I’ve said before we are totally aligned in what we want to do (at the club),” replied Thelin.
Ready and waiting at Cormack Park
1.26pm: At Aberdeen’s Cormack Park training complex, waiting for Jimmy Thelin and striker Marko Lazetic to arrive separately for the pre-Kilmarnock press conference.
Back-three or back to back-four?
12.30pm: Jimmy Thelin is unlikely to reveal his decision at his pre-Kilmarnock press conference, but there have been a few requests on social media for Aberdeen to return to a back-four, with the Dons appearing to have used up the short-term benefit of switching to a back-three.
However, our commentator, Willie Miller, Aberdeen’s greatest-ever player and former centre-back, believes that despite the arrangement looked ragged against AEK and Hibs, Thelin should remain with the three.
Willie believes Aberdeen is playing “to their strengths” by utilising the center-half depth on their roster, and that the players need more time to “gel” into the system.
