JONES REFLECTS ON PRESTON NORTH END DEFEAT.

Nathan Jones was unhappy by his team’s loss to Preston North End on Saturday afternoon.

“We didn’t get the second goal in the first half, we didn’t deal with a situation well enough, we didn’t organise from a set play, and then they scored too easy.”

“They might say the same thing; we weren’t persistent enough to take on the start. “In the second half, they were brighter than us, ran faster than us, and scored the second goal, forcing us to chase the game again,” Jones added.

“We have had enough situations and shots to get the second goal; I am watching games and teams don’t get the opportunities we do.”

“We have shown moments every game we can score a goal, but when we need to get that second goal we just haven’t.”

“When we debrief and work together, we show and illustrate what we require. There are a few things that aren’t coming together the way good teams do.”

The Addicks have produced countless opportunities recently, but have struggled to capitalise on them.

“All of these recent games should have been put to bed, but we didn’t, particularly the home games. We travel away from home, don’t create nearly as much, but score points due to our defensive play. We simply need to exhibit that touch of true excellence,” the gaffer added.

“The performance levels are there to a certain extent and we are creating the chances, and in league one, we scored two and threes but it’s a different level of competition the Championship, it’s a monster of a league, we know that and we have to step our levels up.”

“We need a win, and we’ve eased the heat off them, but we need to win right away; we don’t want to be sucked in. From Oxford, the point total has been extremely low.”

“We have to dust them down, get them focused and we go again next week.”
