JONES: “WHEN THE VALLEY IS LIKE THAT IT’S UNBELIEVABLE”.
Nathan Jones felt his team deserved the three points they earned against Stoke City at The Valley on Wednesday.
Tyreece Campbell scored the only goal, helping the Addicks keep their 11th clean sheet of the season.
“I’m really delighted that we won,” Jones told CharltonTV. “I felt the performance deserved it as well. We had more clear-cut chances, and we should have been ahead at halftime.
You have the feeling that you might not get the goal, that it will fizzle out, or that they will score one because the Championship is nasty like that. “I thought we did an excellent job defending tonight and kept a clean sheet.
I felt we generated enough chances to win the game, and I’m pleased with how we did so. It needed a game changer from TC to win us the game.
“These are a good team; we play against good teams every week. What makes me glad and proud is that we persevered and maintained our belief.
When we did make beneficial modifications, they were intended to help us win the game, which we always did.
The victory moves the Addicks seven points clear of the relegation zone and brings their unbeaten streak to three.
Jones went on to say, “We’ve been good at home; we give them something to get behind.
At times tonight, I believe some will have been frustrated, but we all understand that we’re in a tough league, and there is no God-given right to be fluent and run over opponents.
“We know what kind of squad we are, but we’ve given them something to rally behind tonight.
They’ve witnessed a team that works hard and defends its goals. We are evolving; we are in an evolutionary process.
We are seven months into our Championship development. I understand that many people want us to go faster, but we need to move carefully and ensure that we continue to evolve as a championship club.
I feel like we’re doing it, and the fans were fantastic, especially after we scored – the noise! When The Valley is like that, it’s incredible.”
