‘Just the start’ – Goodwin agrees new United deal

‘Just the start’ – Goodwin agrees new United deal.

Jim Goodwin has signed a new 12-month rolling contract as Dundee United manager, stating that the Tangerines are “only scratching the surface of what we can achieve together”.

Former St Mirren and Aberdeen manager Goodwin, 43, took over at Tannadice in March 2023 but could not keep United from being demoted. They returned to the top flight for the first time by winning the Scottish Championship.

Goodwin’s side also qualified for the Conference League qualifications last season after placing fourth in the Premiership.

“They’re just the start,” remarked former Republic of Ireland player Goodwin of Dundee United’s recent achievements.

“It’s been a fantastic adventure over the last two years, and I’m quite satisfied with what we’ve accomplished here.

“When I first arrived, I stated that I wanted to offer the supporters a team to be proud of, and I believe we have accomplished that as a group thus far.

“We’re building something sustainable, something with identity, and I truly believe we’re only scratching the surface of what we can achieve together.”

Chief executive Luigi Capuano added: “Jim and the board’s collaboration puts us in the best possible position to sustain our success and achieve our long-term goals of consistently competing for the top six, reaching the latter stages of cup competitions, and returning to the European stage.

“The terrific connection that has been nurtured between the club and the supporters was a huge factor in Jim’s decision to remain here, as he sees further opportunity to build upon the strong foundations that have been laid since his arrival with the backing of everyone connected with the club.”

After the international break, Dundee United will return to Premiership action on Saturday (17:45 BST) against Hibernian away.
