Keith Andrews believes Brentford ‘did well’ in Yoane Wissa to Newcastle United saga

Keith Andrews thinks Brentford “did well” in the story of Yoane Wissa’s transfer to Newcastle United.

When they host Eddie Howe’s team at the Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford, who are currently one spot ahead of Newcastle in the Premier League standings, will be looking to put some distance between them and the Magpies. Yoane Wissa, one of the most productive forwards of the previous season, campaigned for a transfer from the London team to the Northeast, resulting in one of the longest agreements of the summer involving both parties. The DR Congo international scored 20 goals for Brentford across all competitions, including four assists and 19 league goals. Many teams were keeping an eye on Wissa this summer due to his exceptional play.
Howe needed attacking reinforcements after losing out on Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool, and Alexander Isak’s high-profile story appeared to be coming to an end. Most spectacularly, Wissa moved to Newcastle and Isak moved to Anfield in the closing hours of the transfer deadline day.
Due to a knee injury he sustained in the summer, the former Brentford forward has struggled at St James’ Park and will miss this weekend’s first game back at the Gtech. Andrews thinks his club “did pretty well” in selling the now 29-year-old for up to £55 million.
“Wissa is a very good player, so I am not too displeased that he is not going to be available because it is the nature of competing against teams,” Andrews responded when asked about Wissa’s absence from this weekend’s game. “Around the transfer window, I was glad when it was closed; it wasn’t enjoyable for a lot of people, I would imagine. I think the nature of that deal in particular – there was a lot made around certain aspects of it.”

“In the end, I believe we as a club did pretty well out of that, but they paid a really good fee for a player of a certain age, a really good player.” Midfielder Antoni Milambo, who had surgery on Tuesday to reconstruct his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), is one player who will undoubtedly miss a significant amount of time.

“I just saw Antoni Milambo about an hour ago; he’s on crutches but looks good,” Andrews remarked in reference to Milambo. The procedure went smoothly, so we’ll take care of Antoni, make sure he catches up, and fully integrate him into the football team—something we’re quite committed to. Regarding any other injury-related news, the Bees manager stated that Josh Dasilva, who re-signed with the team last month after his contract expired in the summer, is “back on the grass and he’s doing pretty well.” The match between Newcastle and Brentford will be shown live on Sky Sports on Sunday at 14:00 GMT at the Gtech Community Stadium.Speaking about Milambo, Andrews said, “I’ve just seen Antoni Milambo around an hour ago, he’s on crutches but looks good. The operation went well, so we’ll look after Antoni and make sure he gets up to speed, and really integrate him into the football club, which we’re big on.”
On any other injury news, the Bees boss confirmed Josh Dasilva is “back on the grass and he’s doing pretty well” after re-signing for the club last month, after his contract expired in the summer. The game between Brentford and Newcastle takes place at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday at 14:00 GMT and is live on Sky Sports.
