Knives, fights and drugs spotted as thousands party in Leicester park.
The gathering spiralled out of control at around 2am.
Knives, fights, and drugs were discovered as thousands of people gathered for a “block party” in a Leicester park.
Multiple parents who live near Bede Park in the city centre expressed concern for their children’s safety as the party began in the park early Sunday (October 12). The meeting was supposed to take place in Oadby’s Asda parking lot, but police managed to block the entry, forcing hundreds of young people to relocate.
A “block party” is a gathering of numerous members of a single community in public, either to commemorate an important occasion or simply for mutual solidarity and enjoyment.
A mother who lives close to Bede Park told Leicestershire Live that people began arriving for the event at 12 a.m., but it quickly became “out of control” by 2 a.m. She said:
“Around two a.m., something happened, and they all started running and dispersing; some of them raced over my car, attempting to jump over this back wall and into my back garden.
I mean, I felt really unsafe. “It was out of control.” The mother, who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed concern about her daughter walking home from work at night when these types of incidents occur. She said:
“This was really dangerous, and as a mother, I’m concerned about my son growing up in an environment like this, as well as my daughter, who will be attending university where similar activities occur.
She also works locally, and when she walks home alone at night, I’m concerned about her safety.” Footage shared on social media showed throngs filling Bede Park from one end to the other. Some photographs and videos posted showed people holding long knives during fights, as well as drug use.
The mother said, “I’m glad my son was asleep because he would have been terrified.” The venue was completely packed with people.
There must have been thousands of people doing drugs, such as balloons and other stuff. My kid even showed me recordings of people being attacked with machetes.
The event, which is thought to be held by a group named ‘Cloud 9 events’, was promoted on several social media platforms, attracting participants from throughout the Midlands and even London.
The mother mentioned this when she added, “They must have come from somewhere other than Leicestershire because some of them were running this way unaware it was a dead end.”
Other residents, such as 43-year-old Jessica Ray, who lives next to the park, characterised the entire night as “nerve-racking”. She said, “I felt unsafe, especially when they all started running around and I had no idea why.” That was the worst part.
When I saw footage showing knives and other objects discovered in the area during the gathering, I felt even more threatened.” Another father who lives near Bede Park reported that he was on his way home from work when he witnessed the situation.
He explained, “I was returning from my work as a neighbourhood doorman, which was ludicrous. I’ve never seen this many people here before. I mean, why come to Bede Park?
“I was walking down Western Boulevard and noticed three police cars and a van with policemen chasing individuals in the street.
It was craziness. I was shocked. Nowadays, it’s the younger generation. They are unaware of how their actions influence others. “I mean, they destroyed the place.”
