Lancing: Mum’s anger after daughter wets herself at school

Lancing: Mum’s anger after daughter wets herself at school.

A mother has expressed her frustration after her daughter was unable to use the loo at school on time.

Melissa Smith’s 11-year-old daughter attends the Sir Robert Woodard Academy in Lancing.

Ms Smith, 41, said her daughter, who she did not want to name, has incontinence and carries a medical card at school that allows her to use the loo at any time.

However, on Thursday, November 13, she stated that her daughter asked a substitute teacher to use the restroom and was asked to present her medical card.

Ms Smith reported that the girl wet herself while seeking for her medical card. Another instructor called and informed her about the situation. “I could tell something was wrong,” she explained.

“She couldn’t find the words to tell me what had happened.” “She informed me she had wet herself in school. The teacher I was chatting with couldn’t have been more sorry.

“I brought her home and let her take a shower. She was just sitting in her room; she hadn’t eaten dinner.” Ms Smith stated that the cover teacher who spoke with her daughter sent her an email that day apologising, which she believed was full of “excuses”.

She has since emailed the teacher and other school staff, expressing her “disgust” and “shock”. She continued, “I believe possessing a medical card speaks words.

“Kids mess around, but my child would never do that. “I think they should just be allowed to use the loo. With a medical card, people shouldn’t even have to ask to use the loo.

“It is extremely harmful for children to hold in their urine. “I understand they don’t want kids wandering around.

But they do need to look into it. “They’re just eleven. I don’t know the answer, but something needs to be done.

It isn’t okay.” A spokesperson at Sir Robert Woodard Academy stated, “We prefer to keep our students’ personal information discreet. “We have addressed the procedural failure and apologised to the family but won’t be commenting further.”
