Lee Grant fires warning to Huddersfield Town stars ahead of Blackpool clash.
Huddersfield Town will be chasing a third consecutive League One win this weekend
Huddersfield Town manager Lee Grant believes Blackpool’s disappointing start to the season will “serve as more motivation for them” ahead of tomorrow’s game at Bloomfield Road.
The Terriers travel to Lancashire hoping to build on their strong start to the season.
Grant’s side leads League One after winning their first two league games against Leyton Orient and Reading, and they knocked Leicester City out of the Carabao Cup in midweek.
In contrast, the Seasiders were beaten 3-2 by Stevenage and 4-1 by Exeter City in the league, and they were eliminated from the cup after losing 1-0 at home to Port Vale.
Steve Bruce, Blackpool’s head coach and former Terriers manager, acknowledged ahead of tomorrow’s game that his team has had a “awful start” to the season. However, Grant warned during his pre-match press conference:
“We don’t see that as making our job any easier, that’s for sure. “We posed that question to the group this morning, and the group clearly understood that I believe it makes our job a little more difficult.
“We’re going to have a manager who knows how to get a team back on track and moving in the right direction this season, and I’m confident Steve Bruce will get them there quickly.
Our job is to try to postpone that for another week, of course. “They’re a good team, and they’ve recruited well.
Really good wingers and center-backs, with height, strength, and athleticism, as well as players who are very familiar with the league.
Lee Evans Malcolm Ebiowei is a player I am familiar with and have watched extensively during my time at Ipswich. I could go through the team, but there’s lots and lots.
“Good threats in wide areas, good physical presence on the front line, good experience in midfield with (George) Honeyman and Evans, and really strong, experienced players across the back.”
“It’s going to be a tough game, we know it will be, so we don’t expect that their last three results will give them any hangover coming into this game, I really do feel like it will serve as more motivation for them, and perhaps make it a difficult afternoon for us, but of course we have to be prepared for that, and be ready to try and implement our game, and stamp our own brand on this game.”
Town travel to Bloomfield Road after scoring five goals in their first two league games and keeping back-to-back clean sheets, as well as progressing in the cup against a Premier League relegated side the previous season.
Grant is pleased with his team’s start, but insists his players are not getting carried away by a few positive results.
