Leicester Royal Infirmary car park cordoned off as police swoop area

Emergency services have shut off access to the hospital car park.

A part of the vehicle park at Leicester Royal. The infirmary has been roped off by police following an incident. Access to the hospital’s main parking lot was restricted on Thursday while police investigated a pedestrian-car collision.

According to police, the incident occurred about 4.45pm and resulted in a woman being hurt in the car park. Leicestershire Police also reported that a woman was being treated for her injuries. They stated that a 54-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of inflicting serious injury by careless/inconsiderate driving. He is still in custody. A representative for the force was unable to provide an update on the injuries.

The closing of the parking park has also resulted in “heavy traffic” on the roads surrounding the hospital.

The spokesperson stated: “Emergency services are responding to an incident in the Leicester Royal Infirmary’s main parking lot.

 

“There is currently no access to this car park and heavy traffic on roads around the hospital, please avoid the area if possible.”

According to Leicestershire Live, motorists headed to the A&E department experienced delays due to the shutdown.
