‘Leicester signed him to replace Kante’ – Nani on Mendy.
Watford sporting director Gian Luca Nani believes Nampalys Mendy is the ideal solution to the club’s need for an experienced holding midfielder.
After leaving Lens this summer, Mendy signed a one-year contract with the Hornets, with the option of extending it for another year.
The Senegalese international is most known in England for his seven-year stint at Leicester City from 2016 to 23.
Nani points out that the Foxes initially signed him to replace the departing N’Golo Kante.
He stated, “Mendy perfectly fits the profile of an experienced midfielder with the leadership qualities we have been looking for.” “We’re thrilled to have signed him.
He has played English football for Leicester and was the guy they signed to replace Kanté. “Mendy recovers the ball well, he has very good in-game intelligence, is aggressive without the ball and is a leader in the way he plays as players follow him.”
The midfielder will wear the number 23 at Vicarage Road. Watford are still looking for more centre-back reinforcements before the transfer market closes at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 1.
